Poor Quality N76

I dont know if this is the right forum, but would surely like everyone to know the sadness that i am going through after buying a brand new Nokia N76.

The biggest dissappointment is its quality. it was nice and shiny for 3 days, but the fourth day i noticed that the whole chrome plating was peeling off. i am using this device with utmost care and still to my dissappointment the plating is just peeling off. 10 days since i've bought and quite some of the silver shining is off. making the device look old and worn.

I wish there was a NOKIA consumer forum where i could post this. Don't need to discourage anyone, the handsets performance overall is at par. But the quality, i wouldn't advise anyone to go for a N76 for that.

Anyone else facing the same problem???

Wow! This should not happen so soon. Phones do wear but not this fast. You should go back to the shop you bought it from for a replacement. It is possible that the vendor has replaced the original case with a cheap substitute, in which case you may have a bigger problem. Your phone may not be as new as you think.

Re: Poor Quality N76

But i did open a Nokia sealed box pack when i bought the phone.

All repair and complaints will be directed to the nokia care centre and to go there is a pain since we are talking about at least 2 hours waiting to get an appointment at the service/care centre.

I am from Bombay/India... the care centre is always flooded with people coming in for phone repairs. I seriously think this has got to do with the quality by Nokia.

Lets see. am hunting for a consumer forum.

Re: Poor Quality N76

you are not alone. Recenlty delivered a few units to our customers but ended by adding to the list n76disaster.com.

1) Chrome peeling. Contacted Nokia and was told to get replacement at their service center. The chrome peel again after a few days. Called a few other service centers. All acknowledged tat the problem is wide spread. Was told by nokia that they dont have any solution yet.

2) Micro SD memory slot cover does not fit properly. come lose easily.

3) Battery life..just a joke. last barely a day. unless you dont make calls or enable your bluetooth.

4) SIM slot. Works. But shockingly unrefine.

5) Software. You find bugs here and there. Hang if you are overly aggresive with the buttons. I can give a long list.

6) poorly shielded against magnetism. If you used a pouch with a magnetic buttons. It disconnect your calls inadvertedly.

Otherwise, it is a beautiful phone.

perhaps, nokia can tell me which part of my complaints are not true. I can reproduce all the items listed.

That is so true.

You are right, the Micro SD cover does not fit properly and the battery life too is a big joke.

The SIM slot is also a joke but i am OK with it since i dont frequently keep changing the SIM.

But what can be done. There is no consumre forum where u can lodge a complaint or any thing that can be done.

Re: Poor Quality N76

Atleast in Nseries.com there is place from where you can give feedback to Nokia. It is under each product support pages...

Here is link to N76 feedback

Re: Poor Quality N76

Happened to me too!

The silver started peeling after 4 weeks. Now all silver areas are affected. I bought mine from Taiwan, so the guarantee doesn't cover the damage here in Finland.

The camera is a joke. The colours are dominated by green. There is no way to fix the images properly even in Photoshop.

Re: Poor Quality N76

The E65 wears out quickly too.

The shiney plastic is going white at the edges, it's also easy to scratch. Also parts of the rubber casing are wearing out.

I've had mine 2 months, have been careful and kept it in it's pouch.

It's about time nokia improved the build quality or gave us the option to change the covers again.

Re: Poor Quality N76

I concur that the camera does a tint of green color.

Nokia is elegantly silence over this. Thus, I am returning all the phones to Nokia's disty next week for a full refund. Just tire of it. Beauty is nothing if it is full of flaws.

Any good phones in the market?

Re: Poor Quality N76

I bought my N76 only 4 weeks ago and it looks terrible with the plastic protective covering peeling off. I am so disappointed. I am going back to the shop today to try and exchange it for a cheaper, better looking phone. I was very pleased with N76 at the beginning but it looks cheap and nasty now. I can't believe they made such a basic mistake and I hope Nokia will say something about it or do someething about it.

Re: Poor Quality N76

Hey,

I am having the exact same problem here in Australia.

Teh Chrome/Silver coating is all pealing away leaving white patches and also the Micro-Card latch has broken off my phone.

NokiaCare in Australia dont wont to know anything about it & are blaming these things on me, saying that I am not treating the phone properly.

I am really dissapointed and DO NOT recommend anyone to purchase this phone, unless you want a cheap & plastic looking phone within a few weeks of use.

Your call.

Nokia should do a RECALL of this product!!!!!!

Re: Poor Quality N76

Hello All,

Well I'm sure I will have the same response!
I have just emailed Nokiacare about my N76 in Brisbane.
Very distressed about the peeling chrome issue. Can see the bare plastic and not happy.

I look after my phones so much so, both screen protectors are still on the phone from purchase, also it has been housed in a soft pouch from purchase, so, no, Nokia it is not my fault!

Personally, I think this phone is a beautiful flip and have no other issues, well minor, compared to it's peeling chrome. Looks very takky and cheap, now!

Very very dissappointed as I have had many Nokia phones.

Re: Poor Quality N76

I too bought an N76 and the chrome plating began coming off in 1 week. By 4 weeks, the entire plating of the miniSD cover piece, the square bit around the camera and some more, the entire bit surrounding the volume buttons on the side, and a large section surrounding the main keypad had come off.

Terrible terrible dissappointment and shows such poor quality...

The quality standard for chrome plating is you cut a large area of it into 1mm squared sections and when you stick the strongest sticky tape on it and pull it off, not even 1 square should come off out of a 100 squares.

Clearly this is not used at Nokia. I had switched to Nokia after using 2 Ericssons and 2 Sony Ericssons because I was disappointed with them for the most part as well. Now I am very disappointed with Nokia too. It's a shame..
