a few weeks before i tried to see if there is any new firmware for my 6300 using a regular non nokia usb cable and i had no problem at all. but now the software updater application tells me the connected phone is no recognized and no supported, and also i get a message that pc suite doesn't recognize my mobile phone(this is wrong because pc suite works perfectly fine). i unistalled everything from nokia (pc suite, software updater, regisrty entries etc). but the problem remains what can i do to solve it? also what is a branded phone?

branded phone means it is locked to be used with one operators SIM card only and most likely it also has a software in it that is tuned by the operator and/or NOkia to e used in that operators phones only.
Thus in softwre updater you will find pure Nokia software versions and then branded versions and you cannot mix them.
YOu can try to recover the USB problems by exiting PC Suite (Open Suite - File Exit)
Finding COnnection Manager in PC Suite - Settings and untick and retick the usb alternative
Take batter out from you phone for a moment and then restart it.

Hi, I have similar problem. PC suite recognizes the phone and is able to synchronize etc. NSU can't recognize the phone, and when I type in the device product code (0549503) on this page (http://europe.nokia.com/A4577224) I get the following error message : "Sorry, there is no software available for your product code Please Enter Valid Product Code. " I have successfully updated the phone before!
I have even tried with other device product codes for the 6300, with the same result.
Have Nokia disabled updates for the 6300?
Anybody have any suggestions, or heard anything from Nokia regarding this?

This issue is currently also affecting 3109, 3110, 5200 and 5300 that I know of.
and does Nokia give us an idea when this problem will be solved ? Indeed, why don't we get a message saying that NSU is not available ? This would save us fighting with the thing for ages...
try uninstalling everything and then run a reg clean, then reload your software starting with the NSU and it is advisable to get the latest version as nokia have now released a new batch of s/w updates, this may resolve your issue if not you can always have the update done at a nokia care point, it is advisable to make a backup of data 1st tho
